Seasonal Plume (Notebook)

After the relatively bandwidth-heavy parchment brushes theme for my literary blog, I was ready to return to lighter blog layouts, both in feel and actual page size. Continuing the paper-inspired themes, I settled on a notebook theme to express my love of blank notebooks.
Furthermore, I wanted to make sure that the layout was something that expressed as much of me as I could. I loved to write, read, and doodle; and comining all of those resulted in a notebook-themed layout that incorporated doodles in the headers, entry footers, sidebar titles, and footer.
Challenges I encountered in implementing the layout came from two things: making sure that the text were aligned vertically at every point of the page (since I was using a background image for the notebook rules), and minimizing HTTP fetches/file sizes of the relatively many sidebar images. I ended up working with a sprite for the latter, positioning the background depending on the sidebar section.
